DROUGHT PRESSING THE NORTH
As we speak, there is beehive of activities at moyale livestock market as herds of cattle are ferried to the greener part of Kenya. It's sickening to learn that a cow goes for as low as kshs. 500 or 2000 on the upper hand.
The sad reality had hit the northern nomads below the belt. They had to part with their most loved treasure , that they tendered for long, sacrificed to keep regardless of flowery opportunities that needs them to sell.
What's left? Apparently nothing. Disillusioned pastoralist staring into a blank future. Safe for the intervention of only the almighty's bounty, the situation is overly alarming.
Such a harsh moment is said to have never been experienced in the 100 years down the decades. Nomads are now hardly heard of being on their day to day routine as many have already lost all they call livestocks for their survival and left poor with no source of livelihood at all.
It is therefore no doubt news for this drought menace extending its effects more deeper towards the suffering soul of poor herders in the bush right from compromising the lives of vulnerable children, elderly and weak lactating mothers whom source of survival have been just driven away.
In conclusion, the government must expedite measures to cushion these destitute citizens. With their hopes gone for good, the only thing left is to salvage them from the cruel tentacles of severe drought.the great summaritans and able well wishers are as well needed for their immense support to Stand with these great people of the north at loss.Photo courtesy of habibabontore.blogspot.com

ReplyDeleteIt's high time ,Food aids reach the poor
ReplyDeleteNice article
ReplyDeleteWell it's high time the county level should take responsibility and help the people that voted for them in having emergency funds instead of everyday depending on national government on relief foods. Relief foods should also be accounted for.
ReplyDeleteThe current situation in ASAL region is undoubtedly worrying as biting drought is ravaging the counties and the country in extension. Unless the government at all levels expedite the process of alleviating these people from the pungs of hunger, it's highly likely that the reports of death occasioned by starvation will be common headlines in our print and mainstream media.
